As one of the founders of Dance Marathon, I am beyond thrilled to see how far DM has come! It started as a small event and is now a school-wide, year-round activity that raises vital funds for nonprofits. When I was at Niles North, DM was the most influential and memorable part of my high school experience molding me into who I am today. Now over 10 years since the first DM, it is a great joy being able to continue my involvement in something that gave me so much all those years ago! As the District 219 DM Alumni base grows each year, we hope that DM Alumni can provide support to keep it a thriving success! I invite you to join the DM Alumni Executive Board and continue your DM involvement with other alums who share your experience!
The Alumni Executive Board is a group of Dance Marathon graduates from District 219 who are interested in continuing their involvement in our student-run organization. Now that we’ve been in existence for ten years, we’ve found that a large group of alumni have been wanting to help out now that they’ve returned home to the Chicagoland area.
Benefits of a Dance Marathon Alumni Board
-Continued involvement of alumni - the more people helping, the more we can do! -Ability to reach out to more District 219 Alumni (whether DM participants or not) through peer to peer communication. It's easier for an alumni to ask another alumni for donations vs a high school student asking an alumni. -Access to more networks of people who can potentially donate. Alumni's will have many new networks (i.e. colleges, family, friends, employers) that DM does not have access to on their own. -Tapping into the expertise, knowledge and experience of alumni can help enhance DM's activities and fundraising. -Creating a larger DM community that can be used for networking, mentoring, etc.
Benefits of Being an Alumni Board Member
-Ability to continue to be involved and more importantly, contribute to a worthy cause, as an alum. It's not just attending a meeting to say hello anymore, Alum can do actual work to help the cause! -Access to a unique DM Alumni community that will allow you opportunities for networking, mentorship/mentoring, socializing, etc. With 10 years of Alumni, more recent graduates will have a connection and access to older graduates and vice versa. -Opportunities for professional and personal growth through leadership positions. Members will have the opportunity to lead events and committees which can be a great experience to put on a resume!
What are the requirements and commitments for Alumni Board Members?
-The Alumni Board will meet at least once per quarter. Other meetings may be necessary to plan specific events. Meetings may become more frequent closer to DM. -Members must be alumni who live in the Chicagoland area and can attend meetings and events.
