A can is preferable, but a jar or cup is feasible to use. If you want a label to put on your can, print it out here.

Know some basic knowledge about your charity and about Dance Marathon. For this years charity we made a short description of what A Better Life for Kids is about at the end of this guide.
Please dress comfortably and according to the weather the day you can since you will be standing outside the whole time. (No revealing clothes or heels) DM T-shirt is preferable.
Bring a friend with you to help can and raise more money with you. Throughout the years canning has been much more effective when gone in groups. Go with your DM Squad if you have one.
Print out a canning permit (here) to show the store managers if asked for one.
When and where do I go?
Look at the canning google doc to see what locations are registered to let us can
Fast Food/Drink restaurants, grocery stores,or farmer’s markets
All of these places should either be approved by the fundraising committee, or you should call ahead to ask if you can can there.
What do I do?
Go to the location and check in with the manager
Stand outside in DM gear with a big smile!
Politely greet patrons and then ask them if they would like to support A Better Life For Kids by donating to Dance Marathon*.
- NOTE: Not all patrons are willing to donate and that's OK! in case that they don't want to give money just say “thank you for your time”. Don't be rude or get offended if they don't donate.
Be prepared to talk more about the charity and answer any questions they might have. Please be careful, and DO NOT say that A Better Life for Kids helps poor kids in Africa. Please see the description at the end of this guide.
Please stay safe and have fun!
**Disclaimer: In previous years we have had students behave poorly during canning which caused us to lose the ability to can at specific locations. Remember that you represent DM for the Niles Township Schools so please behave in a respectable manner. If a student does behave poorly, they will lose their ability to can and will lose the privilege to be apart of the best club in the world .
If you have any questions or concerns about your canning experience, please contact your DM Fundraising committee.
